Artist Gugu Kim presents SCENTS, an exhibition in collaboration with Baahng & Co. featuring finger paintings depicting nature, people and various manifestations of Buddha. The artist is primarily known for finger stamping paintings on canvas and in hanging scrolls using his own recipe of medium – a mixture of powdered quartz, soot, graphite, pastel and India ink.
The exhibition attempts to visualise scents of universal beings and deities in temporal as well as spatial dimensions, presenting scrims made up of endless finger stamps illuminating light from inwards. SCENTS offers a glimpse into a journey towards enlightenment in life and confers lyrics of labour and deliverance of compassion.
GuGu Kim was born in Korea in 1970 and studied metallurgical engineering and spatial and interior design. He has received numerous awards for his art and volunteer work for the underprivileged and has exhibited his artwork in China, Germany, Japan and the USA.
